It doesn’t get much better than this. A perfect day on Glen Lake in northern Michigan. Just over the dune in the distance is Lake Michigan, which provided our fresh grilled whitefish for supper.

Start of Summer Celebration with carnival rides, crafters, food
vendors, entertainment and free children’s activities, Water Ball &,
Bed Race competitions, parade and fireworks. This event begins

Rockford Michigan Rogue River Blues Series Music Concerts
Summer 2010
Starting June 15th, you can relax by the river with various Blues
Bands in Rockford, Michigan this summer.
Bring a blanket and enjoy!
The Rockford Area Arts Commission and the City of Rockford are
presenting the Huntington Rogue River Blues Series for 2010,
sponsored by Huntington Bank. This popular series brings great local
live music to Garden Club Park in downtown Rockford by the river
most Tuesday evenings this summer.
The Place: Garden Club Park Stage located along the White Pine Trail
near the Dam.
The Time: 7:00-9:00 pm

short, pleasant walk north on the White Pine Trail will bring you

Michigan Free Fishing Weekend June 12- 13, 2010
As summer in Michigan approaches, Michiganders start to
gravitate toward the 11,037 inland lakes, 36,350 miles of rivers
or streams, or the 3288 miles of Great Lakes shoreline available
for recreation in Michigan [ Included are 12,000 miles
of trout waters]. In fact, there is so much water
available, that wherever you are in Michigan, you are never
more than 6 miles away from a body of water.
If you have fond memories of fishing with your Dad or grand-
parents, then why not create your own memories this weekend?
The Michigan Dept of Natural Resources has declared that you can
fish in any Michigan inland or Great Lakes waters for all species of
fish – without a license – this weekend.
Please note that all fishing regulations still apply.
And don’t forget about safety. You are still required to follow
all watercraft laws. So, get out the poles, grab some bait,
and get fishing!

From 9 AM to 5 PM, East Grand Rapids Michigan will transform its
Lakeside Park into a feast for the art lover. The annual Reeds Lake
Clothesline Art Festival will be held at John Collins Park in East
Grand Rapids, Saturday, June 19th, 2010.
This juried art fair, put on by and for Grand Valley Artists is a
local favorite because of the picturesque lakeside venue and the
wonderful selection of jewelry, photography, glass, pottery,
painting, watercolors, sculpture and more.
This year the festival is celebrating their 45th anniversary.
There is public parking in the ramp near the Regatta Plaza,
which is a short walk from the site and in the middle of the
Wealthy Street merchants and restaurants in Gaslight Village.
Held rain or shine.
Over 140 artists from all over the country. Some will be old favorites,
others will be new to West Michigan. If art tickles your interests, or
you have a blank spot looking for that special piece….come out on
Saturday, June 29th, 2010 to East Grand Rapids Clothesline Art Fair.

Arts in Ada Michigan Festival ~ May 15th 9 am to 4 pm
Event will be held on Bronson Street from the Covered Bridge
to Ada Drive Directly in front of historic Ada Town Hall
Hosted by the Ada Arts Council
Music, Dance, and activities are planned all day
Artists will sell their creations, including stained glass, jewelry,
photography, paintings, and pottery.
- Live entertainment will be provided
- Food will be available
While you are in Ada, it would be a great time to check out the
boutiques and specialty shops here. Ada has unique stores with
unusual items and fantastic restaurants.

2010 Sizzlin’ Summer Concerts on the Lowell Michigan Showboat
Lowell is a pretty little city on the Flat River just east of Ada &
Grand Rapids. In fact, it takes us about fifteen minutes to drive there,
which we do quite often.
Lowell ShowBoat Sizzlin’ Summer Concert Series 2010
Thursday night this summer, there is a FREE CONCERT from 7 to 9pm
at the Riverwalk in Lowell on the Showboat stage. The concerts are
wheelchair accessible, free parking, there is bleacher seating or bring
your own chair.
The Flat River Grill is offering food and a cash bar, as well as other
vendors along the Riverwalk plaza.
NOTE: Construction on the Flat River Bridge in the center of Lowell will
complicate parking and traffic as it only goes one way – east – at this point.
The detour takes you out to Grand River Drive and then back to M 42 on
the return trip west to Grand Rapids.

As you can see by this photo, there is an awesome shade tree to sit

The eighth Annual Tri River Museum Network will open their tour
of small museums in West Michigan on Saturday, Sunday May 1 & 2,
2010 from 11 am to 5 pm.
Admission to all 18 museums is free during the promotional event,
designed to generate interest in the local historical societies and
their offerings. Local museums on the tour include Averill Historical
Museum and restored barn in Ada; Cascade Museum, located in a
town hall built in 1898, Fallasburg Historical Village with a a one
room schoolhouse and Lowell Historical Museum featuring a virtual
tour and Victorian rooms.

Other Highlights along the tour are historical churches, a Masonic Temple,
a Gleaners Hall, restored train depots, restored Victorian Home, military
museum, a dormitory that house girls who worked in silk factories, a
restored storefront, and a historic village encompassing 300 acres.
Each museum has a little different local historical memorabilia and local
records on display. Maps and additional information can obtained at any
of the museums taking part in the “Spring Into the Past” Tour.

The West Michigan White Caps will kick off their 2010 season
with a FREE exhibition game with Grand Valley State University
on Wednesday , April 7th, at 6 pm at Fifth Third Ballpark.
The official Whitecaps baseball season begins on Thursday,
April 8 at Lake County, OH. The first home game is scheduled
for Sunday April 11th against the 2009 Midwest League Champion
Fort Wayne TinCaps at 2 pm. This is also Family Day
– Kids Eat Free – sponsored by Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
They are sponsoring 2 of these events in April.

Admission to this event is free.

We all like to take a stroll down memory lane. This video shows Michigan
back before our childhood days. It was filmed in 1949 as part of James A.
Fitzpatrick’s Travel Talks. Take a look at our bathing beauties, the “Bear
Man” and our stunning Michigan scenery.
The areas shown have grown and changed but the appeal of
Michigan is still being promoted to tourists today. And they come by
the thousands to see our unique treasures, such as Sleeping Bear Dunes
on Lake Michigan. This area is now a National Park and dune buggies
are prohibited on the fragile dune landscape.
Mackinaw Island has attracted people since early times, the original
residents here in Michigan; the Ojibwa, the French, the English, and
tourists have been coming here since Victorian times.
Thanks for visiting with us in Michigan along this vintage highway
to the past. We hope you decide to visit us in person real soon.
